It is meticulously organised to the last detail. So well sign-posted that it is impossible to get lost – even if you try to. And it is installed with such impeccable fingerspitzgefühl that proves that the white cube has more rabbits to pull out of its hat than we could have ever imagined. It is all done so well and with the knowledge that it works for the greater good and that it is humane and righteous. And everyone is very happy to participate: artists, curators, audience, technicians, critics, caterers, police – everyone is happy to be in Kassel. We can finally all agree - gott sei dank!

There is of course an array of amazing work that only can be hailed. William Kentridge’s opera on time sweeps us away and leaves us begging for more with masochist pleasure. Geoffrey Farmer’s "Leaves of Grass" is a breathtaking – a magical manifestation of the beauty and everyday toil in the 20th century. Haegue Yang’s slow awakening over the disused railroad tracks is a kiss on the eyelids of anyone who has ever woken up alone or in the arms of a loved one. Marcos Lutyens and Raimundas Malašauskas’s "Hypnotic Show" a treat for those who have time to be lead away by the former’s velvet voice in the innermost mazes of your own subconscious. Or the joy of meeting the angry and humourous minimalist techno of Erek Cevdet on the top of a nameless shopping centre . There are many more and I am eternally grateful that I had the pleasure of living these experiences.

But how can we relate to the hundreds of incredibly well researched projects about distant places and long past events that reek of cultivated zeitgeist and do exactly what they are expected to do today – not yesterday and not tomorrow? There are thousands of artworks that scream that they are sure that they will help us to build a better tomorrow. In short dOCUMENTA (13) is so well-oiled and smoothly surfaced that it slips away on its own impeccable middle-of-the-roadum.

I do not show any work on the blog. It is more appropriate to show some of the thousands of signs that accompany the artwork and sometime are part of them – they show a truer face of dOCUMENTA (13) than anything else. Entremet recipes allow us to recreate these dishes today. Instead of approaching it as a traditional re-enactment, the project The Entremet is more focused on the process of writing, exchange and interpretation of the recipe. Apart from it being the signature of a chef, the recipe recalls a past experience through the desire to pass it on to someone else. The recipe as archive, protocol and anticipation offers a model to think about the economy of an artwork, from its inception to its distribution.

The Entremet is the result of a process involving a dozen of participants since the end of 2010. Through a trip to Bahia, a residency at the Villa San Michele in Capri, discussions, performances, games, walks, books, dishes, sculptures and portraits, a common ground was formed between the participants. This experience took the shape of a box containing fourteen pieces to be used by future users as the ingredients of their own recipe.

The Entremet is presented during the exhibition “The Life of Forms” at the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art les Abattoirs, Toulouse, France, on the invitation of Olivier Michelon.

-Residency at La Villa San Michele, Capri From February 2 to 12 2012.
- Exhibition "The Life of Forms" Opening Thursday 28 June, 2012, 18:00 Exhibition opened from June 29 to September 3, 2012
-Event The Entremet Thursday 5 July 2012, 18:00 – 23:30 For its first interpretation, The Entremet will be played by all its authors during a banquet. The private view is at 3pm on June 19.

Here are a few words where he reflects on the work:

A Reflection is what you see when you look into a mirror. What you see is an image, something that defines you. But what is it that defines a person and his/her identity? It could be a number on your identity card, but also the place or statue that you have in the society. Vision Forum member Marina Turmo is showing new work at KSM lab - Norrköpings stadsmuseum. Mixing videos with drawing and mementos from journeys in Europe, the artist invites us to reflect on nature's frictional relationship to culture and how our identities are created by how we relate to this paradoxical couple. Vision Forum is proud to present a eight-day event in Shanghai and Hangzhou. Think Again is an interdisciplinary research project and brings together artists, curators, academics and inventors from Europe and China to reflect on the nature of creativity and how it can be encouraged and developed through international partnership.

Think Again takes many different forms:

- Specially conceived artwork by Olav Westphalen will be shown at Mingshen Museum; by Chen Wei and Natasha Rosling at Fei Art Center.
- Performances and presentations will take place at Rockbund Museum in collaboration with Shanghai University.
- Talks and discussions will take place at other venues including The Art Academy in Hangzhou, Fei Art Center and 2666 Library.
- The group will also carry out communal research in Shanghai Hangzhou and at Fei Art Center.

The sessions will touch on such diverse issues as new environmental technology, humour, new forms for meeting and living together, utopian architecture and finding new forms for art education and artistic research. But they are held together by a true ambition to understand and foster creation and also create platforms for better understanding between east and west.

The project is a collaboration between Linköpings Universitet and universities in Shanghai and Hangzhou. Participants include, Olafur Jonsson, Melanie Gilligan, Vincent Honoré, Per Hüttner, Wooloo (Anders Lichinger, Sixten Kai Nielsen, Martin Rosgaard,) William Rawlings, Natasha Rosling, Chen Wei, Olav Westphalen, Li Xiaofei , Yang Zhifei, Doris Duanmu, Wang Dan, Gong Lilas and Science Fiction.

Here is what it says on their website:

"Poste Restante makes interactive performances where the visitor’s individual experience and active participation is the focal point. The works consists of honest yet unexpected constructed activities, where every single part of the space, every wardrobe and cleaning closet is available to the visitors. These activities may be evening classes in the art of socializing with strangers or an institution that provides secular rooms for religious introspection.

In Poste Restante’s works, new agreements with the visitor are made, he/she is personally addressed and can actively use these constructed activities to dwell in difficult questions.

Poste Restante’s pieces are made site- and situation specific for locations and contexts outside of the traditional theatre space. There is no off and on stage, and every new space is selected according to the demands of the constructed activity at hand.

The ideas behind the constructed activities often derive from identified inner conflicts experienced as shameful, and personal questions to witch there might not be an answer. The pieces work to create legitimacy and an understanding to these problems rather than presenting a solution."

To enjoy their website click here.

Vision Forumhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06031287871423684528noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5998141135413820399.post-18975155780480737032012-03-30T07:46:00.009-07:002013-10-16T13:52:10.314-07:00Neither You Nor Me - 2 Performances in Stockholm

Neither You Nor Me is a cross-over platform, using the theatre practice as venue for meetings between artists from different fields, where everyone participates with their specific knowledge and expertise in a journey through the narratives Antigone, Parzival and Bartleby . The first story presents a number of dialectic positions – man/woman, king/citizen, law/religion – whereas the second is an invitation to follow a movement from singularity to subjectivity and the third about participation, creation and man's relationship to technology. The project is a co-operation between director Anders Paulin, actor Anders Mossling and artist Per Huttner.
They are offered as a way of saying ‘I was here’, ‘This is what we are about’, or ‘we want you to share in the identity of this place'.

Artists from around the world are invited to send gifts to Somerset, representing some aspect of their own locality. They may be bought, found, made, or conceptual gifts – including instructions for other artists or visitors to carry out, ideas or policies - which will accumulate in and around The Brewhouse throughout the exhibition.

You will receive a gift back with an invitation to ‘exhibit’ it in your community, which might be as simple as placing it on a bench in your local park. You will be helping to create a global exhibition spread across time and space, with little pieces of local identity transposed from one cultural context to another, maybe acquiring new meanings on the way. We also plan to produce a publication featuring all the gifts and givers, to be distributed locally and to participating artists.

Somerset based transitional artists group OSR Projects will be selecting gifted instructions to enact or make into reality.
This project is led by artist Simon Lee Dicker (OSR Projects) and independent curator Karen MacDonald with support from Tim Martin and the Brewhouse team.

To be involved:
E-mail conceptual gifts to simon@simonleedicker.co.uk
Physical gifts can be sent to:
Cultivate 2: A Gift for Somerset
c/o The Brewhouse Theatre and Arts Centre
Coal Orchard
Taunton
Somerset
TA1 1JL
UK
Please send the following information with the gift:
Your name / organisation name
Your location
Website
E-mail address if you’d like to share it
Gift title / description
Where is the gift from?
What made you choose it?
Anything else you’d like to tell us

We look forward to your contribution.
www.revealsomerset.orgVision Forumhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06031287871423684528noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5998141135413820399.post-946425474077146992012-02-25T21:42:00.009-08:002012-03-21T13:00:48.725-07:00VISION FORUM SPRING MEETING 2012 - March 14-16, 2012.Vision Forum is proud to announce its fourth international workshop with KSM and Östsam in Norrköping and Skärblacka March 14-16, 2012. It is a packed program with participants from all over the world that will meet local players for inspiration and creation.

This year’s meeting focuses the public and private a theme that KSM has worked on with its MA students over the last year. Can one make a distinction between and private and public in the age of digital and social media? Where does art and poiesis fit in a public private dichotomy? Can we talk about centre an a periphery in a round and quickly shrinking world? This are some of the questions that we will dwell upon together.

We are very happy to develop the established collaborations in Norrköping and pleased to travel to Skärblacka to meet new institutions and local enthusiasts.

14 March
18.00-20.00 – Centre and Periphery – a public discussion at at Konstmuseet Norrköping (Chaired by Susanne Ewerlöf with Geraldine Longueville, Claire Louise Staunton, Sara Giannini, Isabel Löfgren, Woolooo and Maurizio Dwek.)

15 March
9.00 - We leave for the exotic town of Skärblacka*
9.30 - We visit Skärblacka public swimming pool including sauna.*
10.45 - Two local heroes from Skärblacka will explain why it is the best town on the world.*
12.00 - lunch at the paper mill.*
13.30 -16.00 - Visit to the local paper mill.*
21.00 - Performance evening at Verkstad organised by the curatorial studies group in Stockholm.

16 March
9-12 - Presentations at Konstmuseet Norrköping.
